The Short Answer

Yes. If you hold a recognised specialist qualification from your home country, you can apply through the Specialist Pathway. Your qualifications are assessed by the relevant Australian specialist medical college — not through the AMC exams.

How It Works

  1. Identify the relevant Australian college for your specialty.
  2. Submit your application with qualifications and experience evidence.
  3. The college assesses whether your training is substantially comparable, partially comparable, or not comparable.
  4. You may need supervised practice or additional assessments depending on the outcome.
  5. Once approved, apply for specialist registration through AHPRA.
